about

Taking listeners on a sensual and passionate musical journey to Venezuela, Spain, Argentina, Puerto Rico and Brazil, Giutarra de mi Alma weaves a pastiche of flamenco, bossa nova, Latin American folk music and Spanish classical guitar and into a soulful web of musical testimony.

Rodriguez’ is assisted by guest appearances from the late master Brazilian percussionist Guilerhme Franco, and Puerto Rico’s Urbano Sanchez. The recording also features five stirring original compositions, including “The Ocean in Passing”, a contemplation of the ocean in early autumn, and the searing “Rumba Surbronxana”. The haunting “Danza do Meigo” pays homage to the Spanish homeland of Rodriguez' grandfather. Speaking of the piece, Rodriguez said “Our ancestors are always behind us. If they need to say something on this Earth, we will be moved in some way or another to give voice to their spirits”.
